IT-Network and IT-Support engineer (f/m/x)

Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) ● Köln am 06. Feb. 2026
Vollzeit – Berufserfahrung

DLR Space Operations is the central institution for conducting space missions in Germany. The institution's responsibilities range from satellite missions for Earth observation, communication, and reconnaissance to manned missions and exploration flights into the planetary system. DLR Space Operations also works on new technologies to enable it to master even the most difficult space projects of the future.

What to expect
In the User Support Center for Space Experiments (MUSC), experiments and missions are prepared, tested, and certified on the ground for their operational use in space and are subsequently conducted in space. At MUSC, both the operation of experimental facilities that utilize microgravity, for example on the International Space Station, and the operation of landers and their payloads for scientific investigations as part of exploration missions within the solar system—such as to planets, asteroids, comets, or moons—are ensured. Through this work, we directly enable scientists to push the boundaries of knowledge.

Join an open-minded IT team, contribute your expertise to the development of IT services and IT infrastructure at our facility, and become part of exciting, international space missions!

Your tasks
* development, test, configuration control and administration of various virtual telemetry data processing systems in the ISS ground segment at MUSC
* implementation and test of virtual client-server architectures for mission networks in the frame of IT security rules in coordination with internal and external space organizations
* development of (interface) test plans, test procedures and reports, as well as test performance and implementation
* independent troubleshooting, failure analysis and resolution within virtual client-server configurations and virtual networks
* IT support for local office and project computers
* proper documentation of activities and configuration control in the frame of project requirements
* support ISS experiment operations as ground controller in the ISS ground segment in campaign mode

Your profile
* completed university degree (Bachelor’s level) in Information Technology or an equivalent qualification
* practical, hands-on experience in Linux administration in client-server environments (Debian)
* practical expertise in the design, implementation, and operation of networks (switch and firewall systems)
* in-depth knowledge of physical and virtual networks, network protocols, network components, and firewall systems (netfilter/iptables, OPNsense/pfSense)
* solid expertise in virtualization technologies (VMware vSphere, Proxmox), as well as backup and availability of virtual systems
* good knowledge of IT security
* very good command of the English language
